2011 FILIBATA ARTWALK EXHIBIT

Filibata Art Walk 2011
curated by Jason Moss

Sitio Damayan, Baranggay 105, Manila

BACKGROUND
Children from impoverished areas have often been portrayed in media and by well-meaning organisations in a negative light. Seldom do we see them depicted in a manner that uplifts their dignity and shows them as normal, resilient children.

This exhibit sponsored by NGO Filibata and Sining Kamalig art gallery attempts to break preconceived notions about those children who hail from one of the poorest areas in Metro Manila by mustering a volunteer group of amateur and professional photographers to document these children at play.

All of these artists, photographers and illustrators, further endeavoured to present that despite the dire and destitute environment that these children are exposed to every day, the look on their faces and actions reveal a different story.

This is their story….

THE PROJECT
In keeping with Juliette Kwee’s continued efforts in helping Manila’s Urban Poor, Juliette launched the FILIBATA Photowalk in early 2011 in collaboration with Netherlands-based NGO Filibata, and Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres, a Philippine-based charity organization. 21 photographers were invited and assigned the pleasant task of capturing children at play in Tondo, Manila. Afterwards, the INK artist group – through the leadership of celebrated local artist Jason Moss – was invited to interepret the selected photos through their own artwork. Artbeat Manila in collaboration with California-based graphic designer Anderson Gin graciously contributed to the project by designing a beautiful set of postcards – to not only raise funds but to serve as keepsakes of the project.

The 2011 FILIBATA ARTWALK EXHIBIT scheduled for December 8 6pm at Sining Kamalig art gallery, Araneta Center Cubao, Quezon City showcases the entire collection of photos and works of art, curated by Jason Moss. The postcards will be available all throughout.

Opening night. With fellow Ang I.N.K. members.

I was surprised to see this. These two onlookers are actually my seniors from an old company.

Bawal na po rin silang tawagin  Sir & Miss sabi nila, promise ang hirap nun tanggalin sa systema.

They have been participating also in exhibitions too. On the right, Mariel has been with Ang I.N.K. for the longest time & has been involved with several exhibits under  our group. On the left, Joel on the other hand used to participate too in group exhibits. Hope he gets to paint again soon so we can see his awesome paintings someday.

And the artwork that they’re looking at is the illustration that I’ve worked on for Filibata which dawned to my attention a lot later. :)

Like that saying from an informmercial… but wait! there’s more.

A Bit Late But It Definitely Made My Day

I haven’t updated for a while so when I stumbled upon this over at Female Network

Boy, was I surprised! This was an article months ago & I just started this blog here at wordpress.

Not much to write about yet but thanks to this feature I feel encouraged to write & blog more often.

Thank you femalenetwork.com  :)

JEEP

JEEP

A group from facebook was in need of a graphic. Decided to step in & help. As much, it was a local enthusiasts group on Japanese Pop Culture (hence the presence of magentas & pinks) I wanted to keep some Philippine elements aside from the jeepney.

Thank you again Ysa for the opportunity. :)

ArtJam Saturday

Met up with Annie & Ewa over at Trinoma then headed off to UP Ayala TechnoHUB.

They were both happy to see that TechnoHUB’s a great place to hangout & to take pictures.

Lunch at Kanin Club!

Galaw-galaw after the epic seize of crispy pata. I was nearing to hit the snooze button at the restaurant. Hehe. We headed then off to the other side which UP  & crossed Commonwealth via the overpass.

Ewa had to leave later then we had to accompany him to the MRT station. May ibang booking pa! After he left, Annie introduced me to a personal fave hangout of hers Kopimeyts. We then started our art jam. These are her pastel pencils. :)

And here’s one of Annie’s drawings!

Portrait ko raw.  Ang payat ko naman dito! XD

Here’s what I did.

Played around & laid color after color on this. Should bring art materials next time, seem to consume too much color when applying.

Hope we can do this more often on weekends & get to bring our other friends too.

It’s great way to de-stress  & also catch up with friends.

So until next time!
